Onaka Restaurant & Wine Bar @ ARC Review

One fine day, I decided to check out Onaka Restaurant & Wine Bar at Alexandra Retail Centre.

The name Onaka doesn't mean tummy (お腹) in Japanese. It actually means Optimum Nutrition And Kitchen Art.

Onaka advocates the concept of Conscious Cuisine. Which means, customer should be mindful of what they eat. Not only that, the dishes are made aesthetically presentable.

Entrée  - Watermelon Sashimi (Vegetarian,Vegan, Egg Free, Dairy Free,Gluten Free)

Vegan Sashimi anyone? The thin slices of sous vide watermelon has a light taste of kombu. The daikon tamari dip enhance the taste and the vegan version of sashimi tasted refresh. Thumbs up for the creativity.

Watermelon Sashimi : 4.5/5

Main - Pineapple Rice  (Vegetarian,Vegan, Egg Free, Dairy Free,Gluten Free)

Pineapple Rice; a dish that you can find in every Thai restaurant in Singapore. The Onaka rendition of pineapple rice is the healthier alternative with organic brown rice, quinoa, spices and marinated tempeh.

Main - Chilli Crab Capellini (Dairy Free)

Onaka not only offers vegetarian or vegan dishes, they also serve dishes with meat or seafood. One example is the Chilli Crab Capellini. The dish is a good marriage of the fame Singaporean dish with Italian pasta. I mix the capellini with the sous vide egg. This dish is slightly heavier than the rest.

Main - Roasted Mushroom Soba (Vegetarian,Vegan, Egg Free, Dairy Free)

Another fusion dish with Japanese soba, with a dash of truffle oil. The soba was al dente. The soup had an overwhelming aroma of mushroom and truffle oil. This soba has an acquired taste. However for those who love truffle and mushroom, this will be perfect for you.

Roasted Mushroom Soba : 4/5

Dessert - Coconut Panna Cotta (Vegetarian,Vegan,Egg Free,Dairy Free,Gluten Free)

The vegan version of the panna cotta has a light aroma of coconut as it uses coconut instead of milk. As vegans refrain from honey, the honey is substitute by gula melaka caramel. Thus, this Italian dessert has perfectly matches with the taste of Southeast Asian dessert flavor.

Food: 9/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 7/10
