In Somtum Der, they specialized in Isan Thai Cuisine. Isan (meaning Northeast in Sanskrit) is located near Laos, and Isan Food is mainly Lao influnecd Thai Food
The interior is warmly lit. Guests were mostly farangs and a handful of young locals.
The serving at Somtum Der is not large. So it will be good if you have more people and you can order a lot for sharing !
First, I ordered Tum Pla Dook Foo - it' basically crispy fish with somtum.
Somtum, or papaya salad, basically represents Isan Food and you can find Somtum everywhere in Thailand.
Somtum Der's rendition of Somtum is refreshing, with less fish sauce than the ones you find outside.
Next , I ordered Der Styled Deep Fried Chicken Thigh.
The fried chicken was crispy and when coupled with the Thai condiments, it was really good.
However, it was a bit too salty for my taste-bud. But overall, a very decent fried chicken.
And do remember, Isan Food taste the best with sticky rice.
